Not Quite Dead Yet
How does a game jam team feel when they are running of fumes? This was our entry to the Global Game Jam, the theme was "What now?" As one of the weirder themes for a game jam it was up to a lot of interpretation. The direction that my team decided to go was to make the player ask the question as many times as possible. In order to do this we decided to have the player appear in a post apocalypse world without another living thing in sight. The only task they are giving is to find tools and weapons and escape. So what are they going to do now? What the players don't know is that they are being watched and the people who are watching can decide what happens next. Anyone one can be an observer and instantly become a part of the game as they decide what the next trap for the player is. The levels are generated randomly as the player moves from street corner to street corner(look at the street signs for the locations!) and forces the player to continually explore outwards from the center in order to find more supplies as each time they encounter a trap in a street, all supplies are destroyed and they must leave. The observers can decide what the next trap is by visiting a URL that is generated by the game, and vote there. The site keeps track of the votes and tells the game which items are trapped in the room through a php server.

You can move using the WASD and arrow keys, and search things with spacebar. You need to keep moving as the radioactivity of the area slowly drains your stamina. find food and medicine in order to keep going as you look for more weapons and tools. Each street has several types of interactable items, however one of these types of objects is rigged to EXPLODE, destroying all items in the room forcing you to move on. So scavenge carefully, you never know who has it out for you.
